Charity Will Scheme

It's a common misconception that only the rich and famous can afford to leave money to charity when they die. This couldn't be any further from the truth. The reality is without the gifts left in wills by people like you, many charities wouldn't even exist. Legacies are the foundation for many of the charities in the UK and are vital in making sure that all the good work they do can continue, accounting for £1.3 billion of UK charities income. Thankfully almost three quarters of the UK population support charities during their lifetimes and when asked, more than a third people say they'd happily leave a gift in their will once family and friends had been provided for, the problem is that only 7 in every 100 actually do.

In addition to supporting the valuable work that our UK charities do, leaving a charitable legacy in your Will could also reduce your Inheritance Tax liability. If your estate is more than the Inheritance Tax threshold (currently £325,000 for an individual) there will be inheritance tax of 40% payable on proportion of estate exceeding that threshold, unless it is left to a beneficiary that is exempt from Inheritance Tax such as your spouse or civil partner of a charity. Therefore if your estate is inheritance taxable, for every £1,000 you leave to charity your estate’s Inheritance Tax bill is reduced by £400.

Here at Pickup and Scott we are committed to supporting our local charities. Therefore to encourage more people to leave a gift in their Will to a local charity we introduced our Charity Will Scheme.

Under this Scheme we give a discount of one third off the price of your Will If you leave a legacy to a local charity.
