Nobody enjoys the prospect of appearing in court; be it for a minor motoring charge or a serious criminal charge. The environment of a courtroom or a police cell can be intimidating. You need to know where you stand from the beginning. You need to know that your legal representation is fit for the task.
We provide advice from the earliest police investigations through to subsequent proceedings. For example, we are members of the police station 24 hour duty scheme so you can have access to advice 24 hours a day.
We also provide a telephone helpline for urgent advice and assistance : 07850 063 885
‘If the Police want me to give a witness statement, do I have to agree to this?’
‘If I am asked to provide a specimen of breath or blood, what will happen if I refuse?’
‘When can the Police arrest me? If they do, how long can they keep me at the Police Station?’
‘If the Police want to fingerprint or photograph me before I have been charged with any offence, can they do this?’
‘If my friend has been arrested, what can I do to help him?’
The answer to these questions is sometimes not straightforward. Skilled early advice is often vital to getting the best possible outcome.
If you are stopped or arrested, ask for Pickup & Scott of Aylesbury by name and we can give you free, experienced, qualified legal help immediately.
You are usually entitled to speak to a Solicitor in all the above situations even if you are under arrest and are at the Police Station. Always ask for legal advice.
Wherever you are, anywhere, anytime! Ask for us before you say or do anything!
If you have a complaint about Police matters we can help and represent you on this as well. Ask us for further details.v
Dealings with the Courts
If you have to go to Court, you will be given a charge sheet or a summons. Again, taking early legal advice is essential for the best outcome. Telephone us for further details.
Legal Aid is often available to those of limited means. Pickup & Scott can help you with this and guide you through what is often a complex and difficult and a worrying process. When you have to go to the Magistrates Court, it is helpful to have somebody there who already understands your case. Do not wait until you arrive at Court before you seek legal advice. It is often helpful to have a familiar face there to advise you, someone who represented you at the Police Station.
If it is a more serious case and has to go to the Crown Court we can instruct an experienced and skilled Barrister to advise and represent you. Pickup & Scott remain your Solicitors, there to help and advise you as necessary as the case proceeds.
If you decide to plead guilty, we can help gather background information to assist with the sentencing process, and discuss this matter with your probation officer, if one has been requested to make a report on your case.
If at the end of the day a decision is made which you do not like we can assist you with an appeal to a higher Court if this is possible.
